@ Adan - only he would sound a lot better than me :)

... then I would add, OK, now pull out the key items that you can attribute a $$$ cost to (either to BUY or BE) and, there you have your Lee's List!

And, if you're any good, my song would be "I wanna be your Manager ... [so, how you gonna do it?]" :P

In a way, I would like for my Life’s Purpose to be “I want to be a rock star.” Then Nickelback’s song Rockstar would pretty much sum it all up…(I would leave the drugs part out). The lines in parenthesis remind me of something AJC would say…

ROCKSTAR

I'm through with standing in line
To clubs we'll never get in
It's like the bottom of the ninth
And I'm never gonna win
This life hasn't turned out
Quite the way I want it to be

(Tell me what you want)

I want a brand new house
On an episode of Cribs
And a bathroom I can play baseball in
And a king size tub big enough
For ten plus me

(So what you need?)

I'll need a credit card that's got no limit
And a big black jet with a bedroom in it
Gonna join the mile high club
At thirty-seven thousand feet

(Been there, done that)

I want a new tour bus full of old guitars
My own star on Hollywood Boulevard
Somewhere between Cher and
James Dean is fine for me

(So how you gonna do it?)

I'm gonna trade this life for fortune and fame
I'd even cut my hair and change my name

[Chorus:]
'Cause we all just wanna be big rockstars
And live in hilltop houses driving fifteen cars
The girls come easy and the drugs come cheap
We'll all stay skinny 'cause we just won't eat
And we'll hang out in the coolest bars
In the VIP with the movie stars
Every good gold digger's
Gonna wind up there
Every Playboy bunny
With her bleach blond hair

Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar

I wanna be great like Elvis without the tassels
Hire eight body guards that love to beat up assholes
Sign a couple autographs
So I can eat my meals for free

(I'll have the quesadilla on the house)

I'm gonna dress my ass
With the latest fashion
Get a front door key to the Playboy mansion
Gonna date a centerfold that loves to
Blow my money for me

(So how you gonna do it?)

I'm gonna trade this life for fortune and fame
I'd even cut my hair and change my name

[Chorus]

And we'll hide out in the private rooms
With the latest dictionary and today's who's who
They'll get you anything with that evil smile
Everybody's got a drug dealer on speed dial, well

Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar

I'm gonna sing those songs
That offend the censors
Gonna pop my pills from a pez dispenser

I'll get washed-up singers writing all my songs
lip sync 'em every night so I don't get 'em wrong

[Chorus]

And we'll hide out in the private rooms
With the latest dictionary and today's who's who
They'll get you anything with that evil smile
Everybody's got a drug dealer on speed dial

Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar

@ Adrian - Gotta love Maslow, lol. But seriously, I definitely know what you are saying and I now understand whole-heartedly the purpose of the experiment and the kind of soul-searching it requires to master, that to me is now the easy part, the hard part is actually getting the purpose down completely for ourselves with a rear-deck speech that clearly defines it.

Over and over, I just keep asking myself, what would Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and others list their Life's Purpose as. I imagine it had to be astronomical in order to propel them to the kind of business and financial success that they have achieved.

@ Josh - Any help we can provide is all yours Josh :)

# Scott - This is true, I don't see "Living Your Life's Purpose" listed on Maslow's Hierarchy :)

Equally, the whole point of this part of the exercise is to set yourself up to achieve something in Life that you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY WANT (a.k.a. 99.9999% of NEED) to live / experience / achieve ... it could be a simple goal, a grand goal, or no goal:

I just happen to believe that the 'size' (or importance/impact/etc.) of this goal will be directly proportional to how much money you need ... and, end up with - for all the reasons you state.

Great reminder of the big idea of what we are trying to learn about ourselves. I think it's easy to get caught up and lost in the material things(I believe they will actually cloud our clear vision of our life's purpose sometimes)but we just have to remember that while they can be great luxuries, they will never set you free on your true purpose in life.

On a side note, it seems everyone's life purpose includes 'freedom from working a job' and 'to travel', both to some degree and both of these require a fairly substantial chunk of money to do well. I think where we all get a little confused about finding our life's purpose is that these things seem more like 'wants' than 'needs' to anyone(afterall, what we really 'need' is food, shelter, water and companionship) I personally still think that the other desires are different degrees of 'wants' and those who want them more will break through the challenges to their number, IMHO.

I feel that I understand both Adrian and Diane's positions equally. Adrian wants us to understand the difference between our 'wants' and our 'needs', so that we have a true life's purpose to drive us through incredible challenges that we will inevitably face achieving it, however Diane I think, see's everyone else's list, (including Adrian's own personal list) as filled with many 'wants', no different from her own.
