NOTE: The mechanical/electronic Perpetual Motion Machine is impossible in physics (although, quantum mechanics may provide a solution). The one depicted in the image above (The Finsrud Wheel – a moving sculpture built by Norwegian artist Reidar Finsrud) was built in 1996 and resides in a vault in a Norwegian gallery. The ‘wheel’ uses a combination of gravity, magnets, and pendulum effects to generate nearly continuous motion. It once ran as long as 14-days in a row without stopping; hardly ‘perpetual’ but science is still at a loss to explain how it runs even that long!
